DOWNLOADING EVENTS FROM THE PP4300 TO A PC To download events from the PP4300 through the optical port, you must have the following equipment available: • Isolated Communications Module, PP4300-RS232 • DRAN-LINK™ 4300 V1.0 communications utility software. • Personal computer or Laptop computer with a Windows operating system and a serial communications port. ISOLATED COMMUNICATIONS MODULE, PP4300 RS232 The ISOLATED COMMUNICATIONS MODULE is a communications media that is used to transfer data (EVENTS) from the 4300 to a personal computer or a laptop. It consists of two parts, the fiber optic cable that goes into the optical port of the 4300, and the 4300RS232 adapter that is terminated by a 9-pin RS232 connector. The RS232 interface is supported using the PC standard serial ports COM 1 to COM4. CONNECTION Plug the fiber-optic connector on the Isolated Communications Module into the mating connector on the 4300. Note that this connector is polarized, and can only be inserted one way. You will feel a slight click when the connector is fully engaged. Do not use force to engage connectors. Insert the 9 pin DB-9 connector into the appropriate serial port connector on the PC. Depending on the type of PC you are using, this connector may be identified as COM1, COM2, SERIAL or similar. If your computer has a 25 pin serial connector, you will need an appropriate 9 pin to 25 pin adapter. Do not use a NULL MODEM adapter. DRAN-LINK™ supports the use of COM1 to COM4 for communication with the 4300. DRAN-LINK™ auto detects to connected device once the download has started. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 DRAN-LINK™ 4300 is an easy-to-use Windows application which permits transferring (downloading) stored data from the 4300 to a disk file. Using DRAN-LINK™ 4300 the datafile can be seamlessly transferred to a viewer such as DRANVIEW. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 shares a common user interface with other members in the DRAN-LINK™ family of applications available from Dranetz Technologies, Inc. For this reason, those menu functions which are not applicable to this version are disabled. Transfer rate is at 19200 bits per second. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 communicates with the 4300 via a standard RS-232 serial port on the host PC utilizing the Isolated Communications Module. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 uses a request/response block transfer protocol with error checking to assure maximum data integrity. Once the data transfer has begun, you can work with other Windows applications, while DRAN- LINK™ 4300 runs in the background. DOWNLOADING With DRAN-LINK™ 4300 you can choose to Download Internal Memory or to Download Memory Card (if one is installed). Download Internal Memory command (Communicate Menu / Link) DRAN-LINK™ 4300 will prompt for a file in which to save the download data using a File Save dialog. Once a filename has been specified DRAN-LINK™ 4300 attempts to establish communication with the 4300, and if successful, begins transferring data to the file. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 displays a progress indicator window during the transfer operation. The window has a Cancel button to permit termination of the transfer. Downloading the data from the Internal memory of the 4300 takes about 3 minutes. Download Memory Card command (Communicate Menu / Link) DRAN-LINK™ 4300 will prompt for a file in which to save the download data using a File Save dialog. Downloading the data from the External memory of the 4300 takes about 20 minutes for a typical 2MB memory card. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 produces a message display to signal the end of the transfer operation. DRAN-LINK™ 4300 also produces a message display if the 4300 reports an error or the transfer operation is aborted at the 4300. NOTE: Do not attempt to save the datafile on a floppy disk. The amount of data that is transferred from the memory card will exceed the capacity of a floppy disk and produce a disk full error during the transfer. It is advised to upgrade your PQLite TASKCard to version V3.8 to ensure a faster and more reliable download.
