Lantronix MSS100 Ethernet Adapter Setup Procedure Lantronix MSS100 Ethernet Adapter Setup for the Power Evaluation Software (PES) A Guide on How to Configure the Lantronix MSS100 Unit for Use with the PES 1. Setting up the MSS100 Unit with Serial Interface 1.1. Obtain two dedicated IP addresses from your network. 1.2. Connect the MSS100 unit to the PC using a serial cable and NULL Modem. 1.3. Connect the MSS100 unit to the network using the RJ45 10/100 Ethernet connector. 1.4. Run HyperTeminal or other serial emulation program on the PC using the following set up parameters: 9600 Baud 8 bit No Parity 1.5. Connect power to the MSS100 unit that will connect to the 7100. Upon power up, boot progress text should begin scrolling on the terminal. 1.6. When the MSS100 unit completes boot, the following text should appear: NOTE: The Internet Address below is a temporary address automatically assigned by the network server. %% Lantronix MSS100 %% Ethernet Address 00-80-93-21-42-06 Internet Address 198-68-18-199 1.7. Press Return and type the following lines: NOTE: • Use one of the IP addresses obtained in step 1.1 • Substitute one of the IP addresses obtained in step 1.1 into the CHANGE IPADDRESS command below Local_1>SET PRIVILEGED Password>SYSTEM Local_1>>CHANGE IPADDRESS 198.69.18.137 Local_1>>CHANGE TELNETDEST SERIAL 1.8. Assigning an IP Address to the MSS100 Unit that will be Connected to the PC Running PES 2.1. Repeat Steps 1.2 to 1.6 using the second dedicated IP Address. 2.2. Press Return and type the following lines: NOTE: Substitute the second IP address obtained in step 1.1 into the CHANGE IPADDRESS command below Local_1>SET PRIVILEGED Password>SYSTEM Local_1>>CHANGE IPADDRESS 198.69.18.138 Local_1>>CHANGE MODEM EMULATION ENABLED 2.3. Reboot the MSS100 unit by removing and restoring power. From this point on th MSS100 will have the dedicated IP address assigned above. Configuring the MSS100 Unit with the PC Browser 3.1. Connect both MSS100 units to the network. 3.2. Using MS Internet Explorer or other Internet browser, connect to the MSS100 unit that will connect with the 7100. 3.3. Type the dedicated Internet address of the MSS100 that will connect with the 7100 in the address bar of the browser. Example: http://198.69.18.137 (sample IP address) 3.4. The following screen should appear. 3.5. Click on Port Properties. 3.6. Type SYSTEM in the Password box when prompted. The SERIAL PORT SETTINGS screen should appear: 3.8. Change the serial port Speed to 38400. 3.9. Change the serial port Flow to none. 3.10. Check/Enable the Inactivity Logout box. 3.11. Click on Update Port Setting at the bottom of the screen. 3.12. Connect to the MSS100 unit that will connect to the PC running PES. 3.13. Type the dedicated IP address in the browser address bar. 3.14. When the MSS100 screen appears, click on Port Properties. 3.15. Type SYSTEM in the Password box when prompted. The SERIAL PORT SETTINGS screen similar to the one above should appear. 3.16. Change the serial port Speed to 38400. 3.17. Change the serial port Flow to none. 3.18. Check/Enable the Inactivity Logout box. 3.19. Check/Enable the Autostart with No Characters box. 3.20. Click on Update Port Setting at the bottom of the screen. Connecting the MSS100 Unit for Final Configuration 4.1. Connect the MSS100 unit with the modem emulation to the PC that will run the PES. Use a serial cable and a NULL modem for connection. 4.2. Configure the PES to connect to a modem on the COMM port at 38400 baud and no flow control in the PES.INI file. [MODEM COMM] Port=1 Baud rate=384 Flow control=0 Data bits=8 Parity=0 Stop bits=0 NOTE: Port=0 is COMM 1, Port=1 is COMM 2, etc. 4.3. Connect the second MSS100 unit to the 7100 using the DRANETZ-BMI P/N 83004892 cable. 4.4. Connect both MSS100 units to the network using the 10/100 Ethernet port. 4.5. Connect to the 7100 using the PES. 4.5.1. Go to the Setup/Site screen of the PES and enter the IP address of the 7100's MSS100 unit into the Phone Number box. The IP address should be entered without periods. This can be done by using 3 digits for each section of the IP address as in the following example: Example: IP address 198.69.18.137 should be entered as phone number 198069018137. 4.5.2. Change the PC Modem Initialization String to AT. 4.5.3. From the Main/Home screen, press the CONNECT button. 4.5.4. From the Instrument Connection dialog box, select the Connection: Modem and the PES: COMM port that is connected to the MSS100. 4.5.5. Press the CONNECT button.
