S E R I E S 61000 SYSTEM AnswerModule® Sag Direction Diagnose and locate RMS Voltage sag sources Voltage sags traditionally have been a power quality manager’s biggest headache, with even a small sag capable of causing hours of downtime or a substantial loss of product. Today, that headache has grown even larger. With computers integrated into virtually all energy-dependent operations, even the smallest disruption in power can produce problems. Voltage sags can be caused by faults on the power system or by internal events, such as the start-up of large loads. Knowing the location of the fault — either inside the facility or in the distribution network of the power supplier — is the starting point to resolving the problem and protecting your operation quickly and cost-effectively. Quickly detect, identify, locate The RMS Voltage Sag Directivity AnswerModule arms you with the ability to identify and locate the problem. The AnswerModule detects a voltage sag event, identifies its characteristics, and determines the direction of its location relative to the monitoring point. Located within the Encore® Series Software, the RMS Voltage Sag Directivity Answer Module enables power customers to quickly determine whether the fault occurred upstream or downstream of the monitoring point. The AnswerModule is invoked when both waveform and RMS records of the event are present. Using proprietary techniques, the AnswerModule compares RMS magnitudes computed from both current and voltage waveforms, tracking positive sequence phase angle changes from pre-fault to post-fault. Based on this data, the characteristics and direction of the fault are determined.
